I did really enjoy the story, but I couldn't help but feel like the first sections of it were written by ai.

I think that the characters were likable, but Celeste had more potential than the author gave her. I do like the enemies > lovers > enemies > lovers pipeline, and I think it was well executed. I just feel like the story really picked up and become very good at around the halfway mark. Before then, I feel like there were several instances where I was certain ai wrote large portions. It was almost like the author was struggling to find their rhythm at first, which I can definitely understand.

I think, though, that this is an absolutely perfect YA story, fantastic for that specific audience. I think the retelling of the little mermaid was wonderful, and I loved where it differed. a good book, glad i read it, will read the next one, but it doesn't reach my re-readable threshold.
